Info on some known issues as far as we know. More things may be added later. ---- 1. "Error: TrustFailure" - Currently this happens when the Gloebits certificate fails to work, or has otherwise expired. If it happens only at some places, then the region having the problem needs to be restarted, as other functions tend to break when this happens also (example being our online hud, will say no one is online suddenly). If you are not a region owner and cant restart it, file a ticket report and we will get to it soon as we can. This issue is also random and can be hard to narrow down, but we are trying. If its everywhere this is happening regardless of the region or region being restarted, then it's possible the Gloebits certificate expired as those running Gloebits, are extremely lazy and simply do not care and will sit on their hand's till they finally renew it (sometimes taking weeks or longer!), and/or just wont set up auto renewing of the certificate which is dead simple for any server/web administrator worth their salt. ---- 2. Textures stop loading when using the same viewer for multi-grids. When loggin into more then one grid using the same viewer. Texture cache can become corrupt and will require clering of cache (and or also all viewer settings) and restarting the viewer. Default locations for FirestormOS Settings & Cache: Linux ~/.firestorm_x64 Windows C:\USers\[yourname]\AppData\Local\FirestormOS_x64 ---- [The index is being compiled, so not every bug is listed, or likly to be listed, unless we can confrim them for sure.] |
The Avatar Report
|
Last updated: August 13, 2023
When avatars go mad, what you can do, and more! It can be frustrating when you run into issues with your avatar. From things not wanting to remove or wear, to a cloud of smoke. No one ever said OpenSIM is perfect. We try the best we can to try to reduce these problems but some can be harder then other yellow The goal of the reports is to help give some control back, to allow the user to attempt to fix their avatar on their own without just going right to a admin to reset their avatar to factory which simply resets the avatar back to first login. Which before making any attempts, if you recall your avatar being OK and you are sure you haven’t worn anything or removed/detached. Even if your a cloud. Save your current outfit with a new name. Best to not save over any prior outfits just to be safe, always a new one when debugging your avatar! "Help im a cloud [or egg]!?!?!" Fix attempt 1. Trick of the hair It's gonna be a common thing to hear that OpenSIM is being well.. opensim. No more is that true here. Whenever it seems like no matter what you do you just cant get your avatar to start loading. One trick is to just make a new legacy hair as seen in the clip. In Firestorm, open inventory clicking +, New Body Parts, New hair. It will then appear under your 'Body Parts' folder. You can name it whatever you want. Then just right click and wear. This has been seen to sometimes trigger the avatar to start rendering and load in give it a moment, If this fails to work, you can try with a shape next before moving on to the next attempt. [page still being compiled] *If any other possible ways around these issues are found they will be included over time, if non of the above worked. Head to 'File a report', selecting Apperance Reset. |

The Viewer Report
|
|Misfitz Viewer Notice| We have a viewer! If you are are crashing, or having issues. Give it a Try! Download it [here]. |
|
Here at Misfitz, we pass all logins through HTTPS, which is rarely ever seen in any OpenSIM grid. Mostly due to the fact that HTTPS in OpenSIM just is not a thing that works (OpenSIM, by its nature is very leaky). But we can at least protect logins! So not only is our viewer setup with our grid URLs out of the box, it comes ID Spoofing, other fixes, and more to better support OpenSIM, along with our own changes to OpenSIM. More info about our viewer can be found at the link above. --- IPleak.net, and running their test without a VPN running can often be bone chilin depending how your ISP configures your local areas connections. Even exposing down to not only the state, but city you live in at times. While some talking points to VPN are often misguided the real use of a VPN is seen in another light. Start a VPN and rerun the test. Anyone in OpenSIM should be careful when they log in, as anyone can be watching a console on the HTTP only traffic from OpenSIM to data hunt. Users unable to afford a VPN can use ProtonVPN free tier. ProtonVPN. A VPN can also be created with a virtual private server (vps), so you have your very own personal IP and a Linux vps of your own which can run allot useful tools such as your own adblocker DNS, twitch like server, radio dj server, and more! |

Misc Q&As
|
Outline are some basic things that we are asked all the time, and the answers to them along with perhaps why.
--------- Q: Can I can get OAR or IAR backup? A: We do 'allow' exporting. 'However' we only grant exporting on a case by case basis. This to protect the Intellectual property of other users which maybe currently loaded on a region or inside a user's inventory. Depending on this a request maybe denined. If you are worried about mistakes, and want a backup to restore to then dont worry, we perform a snapshot of every region every 6 hours just for such a event. We got you! --------- Q: Why is osForceOtherSit disabled? [Scripts] A: It can be used to create abusive scripts and holds a very high threat level, as listed on OpenSimulator. These could be used by someone to move another's avatar or force it to sit on something else without the 'user's permissions'. This can be very abusive, and is not allowed here. A better option is currently in the works, which will offers better functionality and also provide consent. --------- Q: I cant Teleport! [or it take forever!!] A: Well first, it is best to point out that OpenSIM is OpenSIM. Teleport failures are just the way of life. However we are always doing our best to improve things on our end. However not every viewer the user is using is the same one being used. Problems with telporting can range from many different factors that be too long to list here but some of the known common issues can be, 1. The target region is simply down or in the middle of restarting (if error is logins disabled when trying to teleport). 2. Connection of the user or our servers are down or experience degraded performance, which little any of us can do till the users ISP repairs the issue, or our host repairs the issue at the data center. 3. Connection between the user and our servers is being routed poorly or through servers to get to us are having trouble which maybe a VPN (or alternate VPN node), might help. 4. Your too fat! What I mean by this is how complex your avatar might be. The more and more it is, the longer the server can take to move the avatar and send all the right signals in time to the user's viewer (Server side limit is 30 seconds to do this before the teleport times out. This is longer then the default in vanilla opensim. So we give users more time, but this means if TP is gonna fail, it will take longer to time out on the viewer, waiting for it to fail which can be on the annoying side.). Sometimes this takes a long time or almost no time at all if your avatar really light on attachments and scripts. If you make attachments transparent when you are not using them, or a HUD you just don't use when on the go, then just detach them till you really need them. A lighter avatar will allow the server to move you more quickly speeding up your teleport, but not always as again, OpenSIM is OpenSIM. How to file a report ticket for the best results possible.
|
File a report ticket.. | [OAR-IAR Export/Import] | [Crashes and/or Errors] | [Appperance Reset] * | [Cant Teleport] | [Report a user] * | [Other] * Before moving forward, please check with the bug index, and report(s) pages which might contain what you are looking for and the answer. You otherwise may need to provide certain info. Just saying "I crash allot" with no other details slow and can be frustrating to both parties trying to understand each other. Do best to follow the option you select above and might be asked to copy and paste provided sections into your ticket then answer them within the ticket to send along, which can help greatly in the process. More details to follow within the selected options. -------- page being compiled... 'not all the options work yet..' * Starred options, should work now! |

[MGT] Misfitz Grid Toys!
powered by Mob (vs0)
|
Mob, is our small project's VPS (Virtual Private Server). Being host to different game servers, and other projects. It's also been the primary home for our private matrix server [mgm = misfitz grid's matrix]. Other tools hosted on Mob is a Owncast server(twitch like video/audio streaming server), IceCast2 server (Audio server for DJs), and maybe more in the future! Mob has been very reliable with MGM allowing a safe and secure environment for users to connect outside grid services privately. Being separate from the primary nodes, so long as your login token [which are unique to each logged in system.] is saved to your client and you have logged in least once, you should be able to log into MGM even when the primary servers are down, as the primary servers are required for initial authentication. Resetting Avatar Apperance
|
Sorry that your are having troubles! OpenSIM is what it is, and not every grid is the same. We try our best to improve things on our end but at the moment that only server side. We at the moment do not have a viewer devloper, to take on the list of problems caused by the current viewers alone. More can be learned from the 'Viewer Report'. Make sure you also try everything shown within the 'Avatar Report', before requesting a reset. It is possible that the current issue you have is just a annoyingly simple one and can be triggered into working by trying one of the listed attempted fixes which may not have any reasons as to why it works. If none of them work then you can request a avatar reset. Before moving forward, if you haven't tried to remove or attach too much on your avatar during your issue, make sure you save it as a new outfit (do not save over a current one), so once the reset is done, you can rewear your outfit. An avatar reset (or apperance reset), of this kind is done by staff on our account management page. This returns the avatar back to default when on first login. For some users you might think this means the old 'Ruth' avatar. But we now have a new default avatar which takes it place. Once you login and see this avatar, you can try to wear your saved outfit to load back in your avatar. The cause of this issue may have a few, such as going back and forth between different viewers, or some other issue causing problems with viewer cache and attachment points, which makes it where nothing or hardly anything changes when trying to edit an avatar. It maybe something with the viewer that when logging off, some bits maybe getting flipped in the cache. Can't say for sure as their are other factors not just the viewer as well. OpenSIM far from perfect also. Sign into the Misfitz Website dashboard, goto Support, and click New Ticket. Non signed in accounts trying to reset on a ticket will be ignored and their tickets closed. This is to prevent bad actors from trying to be a royal pain to anyone by trying to request resets or other account changes. So be sure to sign in first ! ! For the ticket, just ask for a apperance reset, and say you tried everything on 'The Status Report'. If you are online, you will get a message saying your account will be logged off for reset. Soon as that happens a count of 10 seconds, you should be able to login. You should also check back to the support ticket for confrimation of reset. Answer back if it has worked or not. |

[Node2] Unimatrix Two [WRK] | vm5 | Utopia Planetia status : Down for work! ---- Update 3: ~ | [September 4, 2023 5:10PM]|by Jordan |
---- Update 2: Things are setup but we are still doing testing takein the chance to upload something with it. There still more we like to do as new code is worked on to help smooth more things out over time. So sorry for the delays if things still end up a little glitchy here and there. We are getting there. ---- ---- Update: Allot of the framework is in place now, but we are still testing things. It might take some times while we do our testing and make adjustments. ---- The sever is currently being setup along with some new code for it is being worked on. So things might take little longer then they did with the second server. It is our hope this will help with perfromance and 'some' of the bugs that are still around. We are going to be testing this code once its ready, and if all goes well start moving some regions. Once the code passes all test will be applied grid wide. |

2023-11-28 - Today's update: Fixed PBR material creation and upload Fixed a PBR-related issue which caused movement freezes in some regions (e.g Abareable) [history] 2023-11-17 PBR materials! We've just rolled out server-side support for PBR materials. There are a couple of demo items at Welcome if you'd like to see for yourself. To see PBR materials, you'll need a project viewer currently in alpha (but due for release soon!) Windows: https://downloads.firestormviewer.org/test/windows/Phoenix-FirestormOS-Alphax64-7-0-0-72232_Setup.exe Linux: https://downloads.firestormviewer.org/test/linux/Phoenix-FirestormOS-Alphax64-7-0-0-72232.tar.xz Mac: https://downloads.firestormviewer.org/test/mac/Phoenix-FirestormOS-Alphax64-7-0-0-72232.dmg We've identified a couple of bugs with adding new materials - we're working on this and will get a fix rolled out soon. ------ 2023-11-07 We've deployed a new update for our simulator software. In this update: - Improved handling of permissions for sensitive functions (see previous post above) - Made some improvements to speed of border crossings and teleports - Fixed an issue with transferring HG assets out of the grid - Gave hasti a bath (he needed it) - OSSL Multi-permissions (new script functions to handle permissions for multiple avatars with a single script. I will post more info on this in the coming days.) ------ 2023-11-06 We're scheduling a new deployment tomorrow to make some improvements, largely related to before. [latest] Included in the update: osSetSpeed - Is being re-enabled, but will only function on NPCs. osSetOwnerSpeed - will also only function on NPCs. osAvatarPlayAnimation and osAvatarStopAnimation - will now automatically request permission from the target avatar before playing the animation. This works transparently to allow scripts which use these functions to continue to function, while preserving the privacy of our users. Note that these permissions are temporary, and will be revoked when the avatar leaves the region, or if the object is deleted / taken. osAgentSaveAppearance - is being re-enabled, but requires PERMISSION_CLONE_AVATAR permission on avatars which are not NPCs. osOwnerSaveAppearance - will also require PERMISSION_CLONE_AVATAR permission on avatars which are not NPCs. osForceOtherSit - is being enabled, but requires PERMISSION_FORCE_SIT permission on avatars which are not NPCs, or the object owner. osNpcCreate accepts an avatar UUID as the "notecard" parameter and will clone a target avatar. This will now be ignored if you do not have PERMISSION_CLONE_AVATAR permission for the target avatar. I believe that this change will allow all most existing content to continue to function (and will restore some content which was broken by the previous changes). The one exception is scripts which perform avatar cloning, including some NPC scripts (the scripts will still compile and run, but may error out when attempting to clone an avatar). Unfortunately we really have no better option - we've already seen instances of people maliciously cloning avatars without consent, so we really can't leave this active. However, getting these scripts functional again is minimal effort - just request permission from the avatar you want to clone, using the existing llRequestPermissions mechanism. ------ 2023-11-03 - Script engine security updates I've performed a security review on the high-risk OSSL functions that we have enabled. As a result, some functions have been disabled. If you made use of any of these functions, contact us (via support ticket) and we can discuss a safe alternative. - osSetSpeed - Was: Enabled for all. Now: Disabled. Massive griefing potential. - osSetOwnerSpeed - Was: Disabled. Now: Enabled for all. - Like the above, but only works on your own avatar. - osForceAttachToAvatar - Was: Enabled for estate managers/owners. Now: Disabled. - Allowed forcing attachments onto avatars without their consent. Please use the regular attachToAvatar functions and get permission from the avatar to attach items to them. - osForceAttachToAvatarFromInventory - Was: Enabled for estate managers/owners. Now: Disabled. - Allowed forcing attachments onto avatars without their consent. Please use the regular attachToAvatar functions and get permission from the avatar to attach items to them. - osAgentSaveAppearance - Was: Enabled for estate managers/owners. Now:: Disabled. Allowed cloning of avatars without their consent. Please use osOwnerSaveAppearance instead to save your own appearance, or if you want someone else's, they can use osOwnerSaveAppearance and give you their appearance notecard. In addition, script errors will now only be sent to the object owner, not to everyone. Update: The osAvatar*Animation functions have been re-enabled because some widely-used dance balls depend on them. We'll work on a solution to make these safe in the near future. ------ 023-10-18 - OpenSim software updates! - The "Virtual Notecards" feature is now deployed grid-wide. osMakeNotecard will no longer fill up our assets database, but should continue to work as expected for users. - Regions will now wait 30 seconds for an agent update on teleport rather than giving up after 10 seconds. This should vastly reduce TP failures (but not eliminate them completely - internet unreliability does happen!) - Various crash and freeze fixes - llGetAttached() now returns 0 when the attachment is being detached as it should - Our OpenSim release now has a codename ------ 2023-10-14 - Teleport to 127.0.1.1 Huh Where?! Hehe, JK, Anywho.. During some early debugging with the teleports. We've found a potential cause of the intermittent TP failures on the grid and have applied a fix, and with any luck! Things will be much less of a pain in the azz! If there are still issues please sign in and file a ticket on the website. (https://web.misfitzgrid.com/) Cheerz! ------ 2023-10-09 In today's update: - LSL Linkset Data functions have been added https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linkset_data - Repaired the new asset system, all viewer assets are now being served by our custom-built asset server (and there should be no animation delays) - Fixed a whole bunch of nullrefs / console errors - The planned notecard changes have been superceded. Instead, we have added the concept of "virtual notecards" which no longer use Linkset Data. Notecards should appear in prim inventory as normal, and there should be no difference visible to users. The only difference is internal - notecards are stored locally and assets are only created when the notecard is copied out of prim inventory. The new notecard code is still in testing on Misfitz Next and has not been deployed grid-wide yet [test region misfitz next] ------ 2023-10-06 osMakeNotecard is evil, and we're fixing it. TL;DR: Stuff is changing, but existing content should continue to function mostly the same. Linkset Data functions are coming which is a much better option than osMakeNotecard. One of the most challenging aspects to keeping a grid running smoothly is managing the large quantities of data, namely assets, and the costs involved in doing so and keeping everything backed up. osMakeNotecard is a script function which creates a notecard in an object. Every time a new notecard is created, it dumps a new asset on our asset server, which lives there forever. Assets cannot be changed, and it's non-trivial to delete them (we only do so in extreme circumstances like illegal content being discovered). This single script function is responsible for over 60% of the asset load on our grid. The biggest offender is Satyr Farms, with 4.5 million notecards having being created by this system (mostly by the "Quintonia" release.. https://opensimworld.com/post/86666 ). The next biggest offender is a "fertility hud" with about 1 million notecards created. It's clear that this is not sustainable, and we've been hard at work behind the scenes to find a solution. As always, if you have any questions, please hit me up! ~J ------ 2023-10-04 Region snapshots are now functional. Every region will have a snapshot taken every 6 hours, allowing us to roll back regions in case of a catastrophe. Please note, we won't accept frivolous requests - please only file a ticket to request a rollback if there has been significant loss incurred. ------ 2023-10-03 - Lots of updates today! - New completely rewritten group chat system, exclusive to Misfitz, has been deployed - Multi-person conferences are now working - New asset delivery system, exclusive to Misfitz, is now deployed grid-wide (previously tested on Blue Moon) - llsRGB2Linear/llLinear2sRGB LSL functions are now implemented - llInsertString and llBase64ToString implementations have been fixed - Fixed an issue in the script engine which caused attachments to sometimes crash/freeze on teleport or region border crossing - Fixed SLURL search when multiple regions exist containing the sim name - Fixed an issue where a region would reject subsequent teleport attempts if the initial one fails - Many errors fixed which appeared on the region console ------ 2023-09-08 - We've deployed some major updates to the grid. - A major GridManager update has been deployed to all servers (previously on testing on Planetia). See the above message for changes and improvements from this. - osScheduleEvent and related functions have been added to allow scripters a highly efficient way to schedule named events without complicated and heavy timers. See #scripting on our discord. - Fixed a "freeze on shutdown" issue which has caused content rollbacks on some regions as they were shutting down/restarting - Fixed a few other crashes that have been seen recently - Fixed a glitch in the Websockets module which has caused the Online HUD attachment to glitch out in some rare cases - Added some code to opensim to pipe in-world "region restart" requests through to our gridmanager, allowing the manager to monitor the restart ------ 2023-09-05 - We've deployed a new GridManager update for testing on our third server "planetia". Once testing has concluded it will be rolled out to Remus and Rory. The event at 6pm will be on Planetia. This update brings: - A new process manager which allows us to deploy grid manager updates without shutting down the grid. - The new process manager also maintains each opensim instance as a separate process, which should help with the memory-related crashes we've been seeing - Regions now report their time dilation, FPS and Physics FPS back to the admin console for monitoring - GridManager will now alert if any region has unexpectedly high CPU usage with no avatars on board - GridManager will now alert if any server gets low on memory or high on load ------ 2023-08-29 - Deployed a GridManager update Which will detect regions which have frozen on shutdown and automatically acquire a dump of all threads for debugging. |
